Kia ora. Welcome to Room 18’s website. The photo above is my selfie, after filming an Indian Event in Hamilton.
My name is Ross Trafford. I was born in Gisborne, on the sunny East Coast. I have four brothers and we grew up on a sheep and cattle farm.
Some of my childhood interests are still with me today. I enjoy photography and tramping. With friends, I’ve tramped most of the scenic Great Walks of New Zealand. Last year, I tramped the Waikaremoana Great Walk with a group of friends.
Travelling is also another interest of mine and I enjoy filming the trips. Nine years ago, I bought my first drone and this has now expanded to six. I formed a New Zealand drone operators’ Facebook group and it is now the largest of it's type in N.Z., with over 8,000 members and growing. I will be teaching interested Te Rapa students drone operating.
Below is a short highlights clip I filmed in parts of Europe.
Going to the movies is another hobby that I really enjoy. "Dune 2", directed by Denis Villeneuve, is one of favourite films. One of my tastiest foods is…..a nut top ice cream!
Another career I have had was that of a forest ranger in exotic forestry, mainly logging.
I read many books a year on my Kindle. Reading is one of the subjects that I enjoy teaching. Teaching mathematics strategies, with the students using materials, is another favourite. I organise the road patrol wardens, who do a fantastic job!
I look forward to meeting you during the school year.

I volunteer to video at many Indian Community Events, organised by either Rudra Entertainment or ASMA Foundation NZ. Below is my video of Holi 2026, organised by ASMA Foundation NZ. Choose to play it in 1080P.
