Cricket

We endeavour to offer cricket to all children from Year 3 upwards.  We have 2 quality cricket nets for students to use during recess times and for regular practice. Our nets are also used by senior club sides, and where we can we are happy to make them available. These are an excellent asset to our school and foster a love of cricket amongst students and staff. Our cricket nets are locked after school hours, however a key can be secured through the school office for a small rental fee.

Our 3/4 team compete in an 8-a-side Friday night competition which uses a softer cricket ball, and our Yr 5/6 and 7/8 teams compete in the Saturday morning competitions which cater for those more able cricketers using the traditional hard ball.

This year the Waikato Cricket Association is now running 8-a-side competitions for all levels of junior cricket except for the top tier Yr 8 competition. This allows for more schools who may struggle for numbers to be able to enter teams.

We have been very fortunate over the last few years to have some excellent coaches who have been able to raise skill levels of all our cricketers and this has been shown with students making representative teams over the years. All Te Rapa School students are expected to play for their school in mid-week and weekend matches. This builds loyalty and team work for all participants, but most of all it instills school pride and school spirit in children attending our school.

Students who want more information or interested in playing cricket during Terms 1 and 4 of each year should see Mr Joshua Louden (Room 17).
