Kia ora koutou. Welcome to Term 1! 

This is a short eight week term. Most days, we will swimming, so remind your child to bring togs and a towel to school each day. 

Some key events this term are the meet the teacher evening, our swimming sports, House Colours Day, a teacher only day and parents/student/teacher conferences. The exact dates are listed further down this page. 

At regular syndicate assemblies HEART certificates are awarded.

The Term 1 Plan

Oral Language: Continue to learn how to communicate one's own ideas and information. A class of year 7 students will be doing a Speechcraft course.

Reading:  Our goals are to continue techniques like asking questions, activating prior knowledge, creating a reading habit, inferring and analysing text and developing library skills. Also we want our students to be skilled at selecting and gaining information from non-fiction texts. Where possible the texts will relate to our Inquiry topic.

Writing: The focus is on writing to inform.      

Mathematics and Statistics: We are going to begin the year by increasing number knowledge and the learning of number strategies.

Physical Education: Whilst the weather the warm, the students will be having swimming lessons and practice. Our Swimming Sports is in Week 5.

Digital Technology: Digital Citizenship lessons will help prepare students to take ownership of their digital lives.  

Inquiry: The big idea is, developing a positive identity. Our identity reflects how we think, feel and act is the underlying concept.

Te Reo: The students will be present their pepeha, and learn vocabulary that fits with the theme of identity.
