What’s Happening in Term 4?

Inquiry

Our Inquiry focus for this term is The Arts - Cultures of People in New Zealand.

We will  extend our thinking of the Learning Assets - Self Manager, Communicator, Thinker, Collaborator and Researcher.Introducing the Learning Assets in Upper Primary | Mrs Fintelman Teaches

 

We will tie in our School HEART values - Honesty, Excellence, Aroha, Respect, Teamwork with our Inquiry. We also include our Wonderings – I See, I Think, I Wonder

Maths 

Number – will include:

  • Numeral ID
  • Forming numerals correctly
  • Forwards and backwards counting to 20/50/100
  • Ordering, understanding 1 more, 1 less
  • Patterns to 10
  • Simple Adding & Subtracting

 

Geometry – shape, size and colour attributes

Measurement – comparisons of length, weight, time & temperature

Preschool Number Chart 1 10 | Numbers Chart 1-20 - a great tool to help  teach kids their numbers | Numbers preschool, Numbers kindergarten,  Preschool charts

 

Health & PE – for the first 5 weeks we will be building our skills with Athletics in preparation for the Syndicate Athletics Day.


We will have a daily fitness activity, building basic ball, skipping and movement skills.

Swimming, when weather permits. 

Te Reo Maori – will include: 

  • Counting to 10, Colours and Body Parts through action songs
  • Simple Greetings and Farewells

DMC / Digital Fluency

We have a DMC time on Thursday afternoons and will use our buddy class for support. 

We will explore Unplugged activities using the Beebots and Colby the Mouse.

I have been teaching at Te Rapa Primary, in various roles and at all levels for over 30 years. Over 20 of these years as a fulltime teacher.

I especially enjoy teaching the younger children and helping them settle into school. 
I love getting to know them and seeing their progress.

I come from an early Childhood background and have spent over 20 years in this sector. I am passionate about supporting children’s transition to school through positive, nurturing relationships. I love using music and movement to consolidate lessons.
