Room 9 - Mrs Tania Wood
Welcome back to school! Over the first few weeks of term 1 we will be all
getting to know each other and settling into our classroom routines.
Our topics this term are “Me and My Friends” and “Wild Animals in Zoo
Enclosures”. We will be learning about
how all living things need certain things to stay alive and how they are
suited to their particular environments. We will be looking at how Hamilton
Zoo has created enclosures to suit the different needs of different animals.
For the Technology aspect of this study, we will design an enrichment toy
for a Cheetah, Wild Dog or Giraffe at the Hamilton Zoo.
In mathematics we will be learning a lot about place value. We will be also
focusing on addition and subtraction and the speed and accuracy that we
recall basic facts.
For writing we are thinking about past experiences we have had and are
learning to write a recount. We are focusing on sequencing our ideas,
including important information and making our recounts interesting by
including details. We are also going to some poetic writing related to “Me
and My Friends” and “Wild Animals in Zoo Enclosures”.
In visual art we will be sketching and painting our portraits, taking photos
with a digital camera and creating a diorama of a zoo enclosure.
We will be swimming every day! So make sure you remember your swimming gear
and to name all of your belongings.
I am looking forward to another awesome year at Te Rapa! Feel free to pop in
and see me or any of the work we have been doing before or afterschool!
