Welcome back to yet another busy year at Te Rapa Primary School.  I hope that everyone had a relaxing summer holiday and enjoyed being with family and friends.

In room 6 this year we have 25 fantastic children!!

Term 1, 2011

Topic: This term we are doing a "Me" unit.  We will be looking at the groups that we are a part of and the roles that we play within these groups.  We will also draw self portraits and make a paper mache hot air balloons.

Writing: We will be focusing on writing a recount of an event that has happened and writing character descriptions of book characters.

Reading: Each child will be grouped according to their needs and these will be a focus within the group. 

Maths: This term we will start with a Statistics unit looking at reading and recording information and then using a bar graph to display this information.

PE: This term we will be swimming daily with Room 7.  Children will be grouped according to their ability and our focuses will be developing water confidence and basic swimming skills.  We look forward to seeing you at our swimming display later this term.

Maori: We will start the term with learning simple Maori greetings and also writing a Mihi about our family.

I.C.T: This term we will look at opening and saving files on the computer and using WordArt in Microsoft Word.  We will also look at a programme called Google Sketch Up.
