Room 20 - Mrs Andrea Dance
Kia ora and welcome back to Term 3 in Room 20 Last term was super busy with sports camp, report writing, and the many wonderful activities we do in Room 20. Our writing focus this term is going to be exposition which will have a focus on debates and persuasive pieces. At this age all children are great at debating so I am sure we will get some very interesting conversations happening in the classroom and at home. This style of written work is to also support each student with their up and coming speech which is to be 3mins long. Being winter, this term's fitness focus is cross country running. We will have three groups of varying abilities from walkers, joggers to the more serious runners to cover all fitness levels. Please remind your child to pack their fitness gear which is not jeans. Shoes are recommended for those whose toes don’t like the cold, and yes I do run with them. We do expect that each child is taking part and feel we have catered for all abilities. Within our syndicate we are trialling something new with our maths programme. We are streaming ability groups throughout our syndicate. We feel this will extend those who need extending and further support those who need that extra bit of understanding and encouragement. These groups will be split in to four, Angus Liley and Hamish Marsh will take the extension groups and Rodney Montford and I will take the middle stream. Our topic focus for this term in Maths is Geometry, Algebra and Measurement. Technicraft this term will be back to the morning slots so please can we have students at school each Thursday by 8am. We will continue to run our elective programme each Friday morning which includes French, Spanish, Dance/Drama and Leadership. Sustainability will be one of our main topics this term and in Room 20 we are writing to Acting Principal Christine Troon to put forward a proposal to restore the vege garden at school. Watch this space to see what the outcome is. Trash to Fashion or Recycle, Reuse, Reduce is a innovative way for each student to think about waste and come up with some funky designs to make that they or a partner will wear in our very own fashion show towards the end of the term. So don’t throw away any items we could use. HOMEWORK- I would like your support to encourage reading each night. This term homework will be topic based and over the next couple of weeks the homework focus is on speeches. Very exciting and coming up quick is our senior ski camp - Week 6 of this term. Can’t wait to build snowmen and race down the slopes! This is just a small overview of our term which will keep the kids really busy. If you would like to contact me for anything please feel free to come in, or drop me an e-mail, adance@terapa.school.nz. Regards Andrea Dance |
