Hello and welcome to Room 18’s class page and Term 4 highlights.

Welcome back to school after what I hope has been a relaxing and enjoyable
break.
This term promises to be another exciting and busy term for Room 18 students.
The first week will be spent completing activities in preparation for our
camp.
We are off to Motutapu Island for Camp in Week 2. Students will participate
in a range of activities during the course of the week including
snorkelling, kayaking, high/low ropes, archery, confidence course, sailing,
raft building and fishing.
* Life Education Trust
will be in school during Weeks 1-5 running a programme called ‘From the
Shadows’. This programme looks at the effects of drugs and alcohol on the
brain, and also how to cope with peer pressure.
* ASB
are also visiting us and telling us how to become Clever Cash Kiwis.
* Fractions, Decimals and Percentages (Ratios and proportions)
will begin our maths for the first half of the term. We then move into
Geometry and Measurement
working through rotational symmetry, translation and
tessellation.
* Poetry Writing will also be a focus for this term. This will
involve writing a range of different poems using different formats.
* Our Guided reading will be further developing comprehension strategies.
This term we are looking at Visualising.
* Kelly Sports
will also be in on a Tuesday morning just before interval which will support
our Health and Physical Education programme. These sessions will be based
around Athletics leading up to our Senior Athletics Day.
*Students will also be attending St. Andrews Middle School every Thursday
from 8.15 – 11.30 am as part of their Technicraft programme.
*Our Year 8’s will also be involved in Social Dancing eg. Learning the
Waltz, Samba and Cha Cha leading up to their Formal Leavers Dinner.
We look forward to sharing our learning, achievements and experiences with
you.
