Room 18 - Mr Hamish Marsh

Hello and welcome to Room 18’s class page and Term 4 highlights.

* Welcome back to school after what I hope has been a relaxing and enjoyable break. This term promises to be another exciting and busy term for Room 18 students. The first week will be spent completing activities in preparation for our camp. We are off to Motutapu Island for Camp in Week 2.  Students will participate in a range of activities during the course of the week including snorkelling, kayaking, high/low ropes, archery, confidence course, sailing, raft building and fishing.

* Life Education Trust will be in school during Weeks 1-5 running a programme called ‘From the Shadows’.  This programme looks at the effects of drugs and alcohol on the brain, and also how to cope with peer pressure.

* ASB are also visiting us and telling us how to become Clever Cash Kiwis.

 * Fractions, Decimals and Percentages (Ratios and proportions) will begin our maths for the first half of the term.  We then move into Geometry and Measurement working through rotational symmetry, translation and tessellation.

* Poetry Writing will also be a focus for this term. This will involve writing a range of different poems using different formats.

* Our Guided reading will be further developing comprehension strategies.  This term we are looking at Visualising.

* Kelly Sports will also be in on a Tuesday morning just before interval which will support our Health and Physical Education programme.  These sessions will be based around Athletics leading up to our Senior Athletics Day.

*Students will also be attending St. Andrews Middle School every Thursday from 8.15 – 11.30 am as part of their Technicraft programme.

*Our Year 8’s will also be involved in Social Dancing eg. Learning the Waltz, Samba and Cha Cha leading up to their Formal Leavers Dinner.

We look forward to sharing our learning, achievements and experiences with you.

Hamish Marsh
