Welcome to Room 17 for 2012

With lots on the agenda for Term One, a particular highlight will be (with the nice warm weather still with us) daily swimming  to keep us cool and up-skilled in swim-safe – so bring your togs, towels, hats and lotion every day.  Room 17 is located not far from the Multipurpose Room and close to the pool and fields. 

To start off the term we are looking at recount in Writing, Plays for Reading how these are set out, what characteristics do Recount and Plays have and what are some of the surface and deeper features? This programme will be complemented with a selection of material to be written and read to add mileage to our learning alongside our Library and Spelling programme.

For maths we will be looking at Basic Facts and Problem Solving to start with and then moving into Numeracy Strategy and Knowledge.

Within the Yr. 5/6 syndicate our main topic will be ‘Discovery’ in relation to our Tui Ridge Camp coming up in week 7 as an integrated Unit and then mixing this in with learning logs – a goals, learning and achievement diary.  Term One is a great time of the year to get to know each other’s strengths and weaknesses,learn about independent learning alongside key competencies and sharing a bit about ourselves as we build a solid team climate and culture in Room 17.
