Room 11 - Mrs Christine Shadbolt (Yr 3-4 Team Leader)
The main topic of study for Room
11 students this term is our “Fairytales, Folktales and Legends” unit.
This will be taught as an integrated unit covering Social Sciences,
Literacy and The Arts curriculum areas. This involves the students
studying a variety of traditional Fairytales, Folktales and Legends and
understanding how cultural practices reflect and express peoples’ values
and affect the way we think, feel and behave. They will look at how
culture is passed on and shared through story-telling visual arts (dance
& drama) and song. In groups, the students will practise and perform a
variety of Fairytales to an audience. The students will share, read and
retell traditional fairytales and then write their own modern day
version of a chosen fairytale.
Multiplication and Division will be
completed this term. Te Reo Maori involves the students in following and
saying instructions in Maori in the classroom environment. Jump Jam and
Cross Country training will be taken syndicate wide and Large Ball skills
and games will continue until the end of the term. The Kidspiration
programme will be used as part of our Fairytale writing and we will be
sending internal emails as part of ICT this term.
A Year 3/4 Technology GATE (Gifted
and Talented) group will carry out technological activities in preparation
for the BP challenge held in September. The Arts is the other GATE focus
curriculum area for this term and a group of students will perform a
musical, “Putting on the Ritz” incorporating song and dance.
