Cross Country
Te Rapa Primary School holds an annual cross country run in the third term of every school year.
This is an event that is attended by the entire school, with an open invitation to parents and family to come along and cheer for their son(s) and / or daughter(s).
Every child has the opportunity to successfully complete a course that is appropriate for their age and year level, from the 5 year olds in
Year 0-1 right up to the 12 and 13 year olds in Year 8.
All children that successfully complete their prescribed course earn points for their house team in our school Inter-House competition. The event is usually in the middle of the third term, to allow plenty of time for the children to practice and familiarise themselves with their course.
Students in the upper school, from Year 3 to Year 8 are selected (if they qualify) to test themselves against the best from either the Hamilton area, or other students (Year 7 & 8 level) from as far away as Whitianga on the Thames Coast, to Otorohanga and Te Kuiti in the heart of the King Country.
In recent times our Year 7/8 team competed against 50 other schools and we came FIRST in the
Year 7 girls teams event, 3rd in the Year 8 girls and 3rd in the Year 7 boys. Our
Year 8 boy’s team also managed a top ten finish.
Athletics
Te Rapa Primary School are traditionally among the top Full Primary Schools in the Waikato, King Country and Thames Valley in terms of Athletics.
All staff are trained to teach athletic skills and we offer a comprehensive run, jump, throw programme throughout the whole school.
The junior area of the school focus on basic techniques and the programme becomes more and more specific as they progress up the school.
Athletics is taught in Term 4 and is lots of fun for students.
Syndicate Athletics Sports Days are scheduled for the middle of the fourth term, to which parents and family members are invited to attend.
Students who excel in specific areas of athletics are selected and given the chance to compete against either schools from in and around North-West Hamilton, or when they reach the
Year 7/8 level of the school, against schools from all over the Waikato, King Country and Thames Valley.
These inter-school athletics championships are held annually at
Hamilton's Porritt Stadium, and our students regularly compete with
distinction.
