Welcome back to Term 4. We hope you have enjoyed a well earned break and some time together as a family. We have a very busy term ahead of us with the first major event being our syndicate camp at Finlay Park during Week 3. We also look  forward to our student teacher - Mrs Megan Wiggins being in Room 21 for the first 6 weeks of this term.

Outlined below are important reminders, major learning focuses for the term and key dates for syndicate events.

Important Reminders

  • Camp meeting for Camp parents - Wednesday 16th October 5:30pm- Staff Lounge

  • Please ensure your child has a spare pair of clothes for athletics training at school each day.

  • Rm’s 18,20,21 need to be at school by 8:30 each Thursday, ready to leave on the bus for   technicraft. Rm’s 17,19 depart school at 11:45 for their afternoon session at Hamilton Junior High.

Focuses for Term 4

Mathematics - We will be focusing on  components of Statistics & Probability and Number Review to finish the year off. Prime math students are continuing to work towards completing their current book and will be completing another review before the end of the year. All students will also be reassessed on their basic facts and number knowledge before the end of the term.  All classes will also be completing the Moneytime programme which leads students through a range of financial literacy concepts as they develop an understanding of earnings, interest, loans and budgeting.

Writing - Students will be working  on essay writing skills, developing paragraphs and supporting evidence. We will also look at report writing and finish off with report information and letters..

Spelling and Grammar -We will continue to develop knowledge of spelling patterns, word origins, sentence structures and vocabulary development. We will also be focusing on proofreading & editing skills.

Reading - The reading focus   will be the Availl Programme - Comprehension using subtitles, Critical thinking ( identifying bias, fact, opinion, perspective, relevance, validity) and Evaluation . Students will learn how to make informed decisions about topics using their texts.  

Inquiry - Our main focus for this term will be careers and digital technology. We will be exploring the future and how we can develop  skills and knowledge that will benefit us, as begin to plot out our future pathways.

Physical Education - We will be preparing for Athletics Day which is in Week 5. We will focus on techniques for shot put, sprints, discus, long jump and high jump. Towards the end of the term we will be starting our summer swimming programme, focusing on survival skills.

Art - With the Waikato Full Primary School and the Te Rapa Primary School Art competitions to enter, students are invited to enter their best pieces from over the year or can complete a new piece either at school or at home.

Culture - We will be welcoming and hosting 11 Japanese students into our classes over the next two weeks. They will experience our education system, our language and what it means to be a ‘Kiwi’. Our visitors will also share ideas and activities around their culture with our students, a worthwhile experience for all involved.
